A severe blizzard drenches the region with heavy snow and high winds. Railroads including the Northern Pacific and Omaha report trains blocked and drifted streets with drifts hindering travel for over a day. Mails delayed until Wednesday evening as snow removal crews and plows tried to reopen routes and restore normal business.
The Toe Times reports a year end shortage of cash and a large amount due from patrons. It asks readers who received statements in the past week to settle their accounts immediately to meet overdue obligations.
Notice that the 1904 tax roll is in the hands of the City Treasurer for collection. Taxes shown are payable at the treasurer's office before January 31, 1905. after that date, unpaid taxes will be collected as required by law. Dated Washburn Wis December 19 1904.
Farmers rally at the old town hall denouncing double taxation and alleged mismanagement by the town board and a local attorney. They cite inflated assessments, costly litigation, and unnecessary spending, with six lawsuits against the city and sixteens injunctions planned to restrain tax collection. A special town meeting is urged to take control and seek settlement.
Orphan George Skuse, long a ch ere boy for Fred T. Yates, becomes heir to $45,000 from a New York aunt. The total includes five heirs: George, two sisters, a brother, and a nephew. Mrs. Walsh reports the authentic death and Mr. Walsh will handle the estate duties for the young man.
Deputy collector D. W. Corning releases annual port report showing arrivals and clearances of American and foreign vessels. Totals include 309,535 tons foreign and 17,63% foreign tonnage on 327,220 total tons, with port receipts of 114,665 tons coal and 120,210 total tons and shipments of 65,263,000 feet lumber and 5,895,000 bushels grain.
