Thomas L. Dukelow will depart Washburn Sunday for the south of Ireland to visit his aged parents and two sisters. He came to America twenty two years ago and plans a two months stay. This will be his first trip back to his homeland since arriving in the United States.
Eva J. Page of Ashland brings action in circuit court to dissolve the town of Eileen, established last spring, after filing a writ of certiorari to compel the county clerk Oscar to certify records for review. The suit alleges public dissatisfaction with town affairs and seeks scrutiny of proceedings to address perceived inequities in land access and governance.
Sheriff Henry J. Conlin begins his term Monday in the Bayfield County jail building with his family settled in. Assistants A. B. Severson and Peter Kjaverwick help him as the new force, with expectations he will prove a splendid officer.
County Treasurer elect John Froseth struggles to obtain a 203000 dollar surety bond required to qualify. Bonding firms demand deposits stay in Ashland and Bayfield banks, but Froseth refuses to favor those institutions with public funds, delaying final qualification until the January 20 deadline.

The Alexander-Edgar Lumber Company will shut down its saw mill at Iron River, ending a major local industry. The mill’s closure leaves Iron River facing an uncertain future, with 90 million feet of pine nearby and hope that new buyers may keep some milling activity alive near town.

Mrs. Frank N. Arseneau died at her home on Monday at age nineteen. A newborn child also died, and both were buried yesterday. The husband and family receive many expressions of sympathy in their sorrow.
