In January 1902 Bayfield County residents resisted a federal order to tear up Battle Axe railroad tracks costing nearly 200000. Judge Parish and officials defended taxpayers rights while the Dane County jail and fines followed for district attorney A W McLeod L H Lien and others. Christmas church events and mission talk announced

The church hosts a Christmas tree and exercises Saturday at 7 o clock with invitations to all. Next Sunday the morning sermon is The Wise Men and the evening sermon Christmas a Day of Gladness and Gratitude. Mrs Della Geggie of Minneapolis spoke to a small audience Monday evening as national organizer for the Woman's Home Missionary Society.

Washburn Commercial Club Formed and Organized

The Washburn Commercial Club was incorporated at a Monday night meeting after preliminary work by citizens. Officers include President M. A. Sprague, Vice President H G Mertens, Secretary Treasurer O A Lamoreaux, and managers Yates, Olson, Maxcy, and Meehan. Seventy three members joined, each paying ten dollars. The group plans to invest 550 to rehabilitate the old library building and furnish the quarters, aiming to open to members soon after year’s start.
