The Washburn annual tax roll was turned over to City Treasurer Lee Tuesday morning. The valuation of city property is about the same as last year. The tax rate stands at 3 percent and receipts will be issued for all payments.
Rev. Harding R. Hogan closed a series of very successful meetings at the Congregational church last night and left today for his Amery home. The gatherings were largely attended and created much goodwill. Hogan is described as a brilliant preacher with strong success in his work.
A entertaining account by Paul Latzke published in Success Magazine recounts a great contest won by the people. A copy of the book is available from the Bayfield County Telephone Co. office.

William Schrieber was found guilty of murder in the first degree in St. Louis County Minnesota for the Massapust homestead killing last fall. A new trial is expected. he faces possible death or life imprisonment. He forged Massapust certificates and sought to cash them in Bayfield Bank, with later forgery charges possible if acquitted on the murder count.
Services are planned for next Sunday morning and evening at the usual hours. The evening service will be conducted in English. In the afternoon a Communion will be held at Long Lake.

A large Round House at Ashland owned by the Omaha Railway company burned Monday evening. The fire consumed two engines and caused extensive damage to the facility. authorities assess the loss and investigate the cause.

An adjourned Washburn common council meeting discussed trimming library expenses and directing the library board to operate within 1200 dollars per year until finances improve. The council also adopted a resolution to complain to the Wisconsin Railroad Commission about water charges by Washburn Water Works and instructed the city attorney to act. A three-member committee was appointed to negotiate lower hydrant rentals with Mr Maxcy.
Plans outline the installation of new Masonic Lodge officers on December 28 with a banquet and dance. Other notices include annual installs for K O T M and K P Lodges in January, a lunch for two orders, and a P Lodge gathering at Charles Boyd’s home. The secretary treasurer reported 709.48 in treasury and a 12.5 percent dividend on paid in capital, lower than last year. Officers named are Peter LaBrash president O M Olson vice president N M Oscar secretary treasurer and J O Sullivan on the board of managers.
