A new Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company will organize with a meeting in this city on Tuesday January 12 at 9 o clock in the Court Room. The gathering follows an adjourned County Board session and will attract board members and interested locals.
Social page notes the annual Masonic lodge installation at the lodge hall next Monday evening open to members and friends. Followed by dancing cards and refreshments. Also reports Knights of Pythias host Mr and Mrs Charles Ford on East Fourth Street with cards and lunch and other social events including dinner party by Mr and Mrs C O Sowder and future K P Carnation Ball plans. Marriage licenses issued to I Lewis Alcock Harriet Thomas and Joseph Gordon Maggie Dragon. Alcock a known city preacher. Meetings of the Congregational Church Men’s Club set for the third Friday monthly. note that this month’s earlier event was held already.
At the Beaver Lodge annual meeting held last Thursday evening officers were elected for the coming year. W B Geo Calder was chosen W grand, Mrs B Runkle W queen, Dr M A Poppe W chaplain and H P Axelberg W secretary. Other posts filled include Mrs M E Doyle W treasurer and Mrs Wm Goedeke Ql, Mrs F Bennett Qf, Mrs J A Sheridan Qc, Mrs A Charron Wpg, P S Lillie Wg, Dr F J Burns Med Exam, Geo T Fox Trustee. After the vote a social time with light refreshments followed. Royal Neighbors of A Camp 475 also elected officers for 1909 including Mrs C Freeman Oracle, G Steinert Vice, L Theriau lt Chancelor, Mrs Sheridan Receiver, G Bergman Recorder, L Barney Marshall, D Monahan Asst, EK Burke Inner Sent, A Smith Outer Sent, A Lien Manager, Mrs Sheridan EK Potvin.
The presented slate includes President O Hanberg Vice President Lewis Wardner Recording Secretary N Myhre Financial Secretary M O Sunde Treasurer Ole Anne Chaplain Pete Moe Marshal John Monsans Librarian Hans Ambly Inside Guard Carl Flonness Outside Guard John Ayre Trustee Louis Wardner with multiple roles assigned.
To Start a Store, P M Olson & Company will open a grocery in the former cash co operative building at Bayfield street and fifth avenue. John Hoel will oversee operations and the store will offer a complete stock of groceries and provisions as soon as next week.
Christmas morning services at 10 30 at the Norwegian Lutheran Church and 2 30 at Enge. A Christmas program and tree will be held Saturday evening at the church. Sunday morning services occur at the usual hour with no evening service due to the pastor’s absence in Mason.

A new fish law for Chequamegon Bay takes effect January 1 1909. It bans nets of any kind except four and a quarter inch mesh gill nets in January February March and April. Smaller nets may be used in bounded waters in November and December for herring and rough fish. Fines range from twenty five to one hundred dollars for first offences.
A new lumber combine emerges from Duluth and Chicago talks among Weyerhaeuser Hines Cook and O'Brien interests. It pools timber in Northern Minnesota Ontario and plus the Duluth Rainy River and Winnipeg railroad. Headed by Edward Hines William O'Brien H Hornby F C Weyerhaeuser S J Cusson and J G Ketchum the outfit carries a 20 million capitalization.

Christ Field, six miles south of Tron River, reports a promising iron ore discovery on his land. While digging a cellar, he found ore in many spots and some samples tested well. Mining men believe the ore could be in paying quantities, and Field aims to raise capital for further investigation.
William Podvin of this city received a letter from Fox River Quebec about the death of John Willette formerly a resident here. Willette fell ill August 8 with blood poisoning and died in early December. He had many friends in the city who mourn his loss.
Rev. H. W. Carter of Beloit occupied the pulpit at the Congregational church last Sunday morning and evening. F. W. Downs spent a few days down at Medford during the past week where he looked after matters of business.
