New undersheriff John A. McDonald to move from Iron River and James Albertson to board prisoners in the sheriff’s residence. Sheriff elect Max Happle of Iron River visited the city to certify the appointments and plan for his January takeover and relocation.
Miss Emma Evans of Sparta visited the city and brought a state institution boy to a Washburn home. The note highlights the shortage of electric lights and promotes a Christmas gift Parlor Lamp sale at People’s Furn store.

The Loveland Company of Minneapolis and Washburn is clearing land on section 31 west of the city for a large sheep ranch. A crew has been hired to cut brush and prepare the site through winter with sheep to be shipped in spring. President W A Loveland believes the venture will succeed and will give it a fair trial.
The event features Grains Grasses and Farm Implements with U S Department of Agriculture demonstrations on Denatured Alcohol from waste, wheat tests, flour baking tests and lectures. $50 000 in prizes backs the displays and the North Western Line offers Washburn to Omaha round trip for 16 15 with tickets sale December 12 to 17 and return by December 22.
The report shows 257 non-resident deer licenses at 25 dollars each bringing 6,525 and 363 non-resident mall game licenses yielding 3,630 totaling 10,155. Last year 247 deer and 360 small game licenses netted 9,775. Some hunters ship one carcass home and many succeed.

Mr W H Barton and family leave the city to take the pastorate at Congregational church in Spring Valley. The Ashland community mourns the loss of a amiable family and notes the YMCA financial strains forced his resignation as secretary. Barton’s business background and rapport with local men and youth are highlighted as strengths for his new ministry.
