Colson Acquitted in Kentucky Murder Trial
Ex congressman David G. Colson was acquitted after a four day trial for the murder of Lieut Etherlbert Scott and Luther Demaree. Iron River man Zerbergg loses both eyes after election row
George Zerbergg badly hurt in an election row at Ashland's Dodd's hospital required surgery to save his life and lost both eyes. Charles Mews, Tron River saloon keeper, faced Municipal court on charges for injuring Zerbergg, pled not guilty and posted 700 bail. Paul Kreuger held on 300 bond for participation in the assault.

Bayfield County Bonds Case Heads to Court Over Rail Project
Milwaukee April 24 The dispute over 30 000 bonds issued to aid the Washburn Bayfield and Iron River railway reaches court. After sale of the bonds to Henry Herman Judge Elliott orders Herman to file a cross complaint. Milwaukee Trust Company as trustees may be released from further litigation. Herman must serve within ten days.

Frank Smith won the oration “The Negro and the South” and Ewing McBeath captured the declamation “The Traitor's Deathbed” at the Opera House last Wednesday. They will represent Washburn High School in the Division League contest with Washburn Bayfield and Ashland next Friday at the Opera House. Seats may be reserved at Prud homme Tyrrell’s. admission is twenty five cents for adults and fifteen cents for children.

Census Supervisor J B Jensen Visits Washburn
Hon J B Jensen supervisor of the census for the district visited the city on Thursday. He announced Bayfield county enumerators have been appointed and will receive commissions soon. Enumeration starts June 1 and must finish within 30 days. He toured the Bigelow mill and praised it as a wonderful institution and showed favorable impressions of Washburn.

Two Men Arrested in Murder Near Ashland
Officers Dowd and Tanner arrested Bill Anderson and John Casey on murder charges in connection with the death of John Taggart. The two were found on the Bigelow logging road and brought to Ashland for arraignment before the Municipal court. They are held without bail until May 1 for preliminary examination.
