A molasses cistern explosion tore a 100 foot hole in a vat building, flames followed, and four alarm fires drew units from across the city. Frances Sears prohibition agent and Hugh Duffy mechanic were killed. The blaze, halted only after hours of fighting, caused $2.0 to $2.5 million in losses and destroyed 500000 gallons of alcohol amid multiple explosions.
