The Warren trial of John M Andrews for Emile Amann's murder began with 12 jurors to be seated, 94 talesmen examined, 84 objectionable, and three Warren men chosen as jurors amid intense courtroom activity.
The defense and prosecution presented detailed testimonies on the crime scene distances to the Andrews home and the field where the body lay. Witnesses included Mrs Amann and Mrs Offerlee mourning, photographer James Bairstow, and Dr. W S Pierce who described bullet holes and facial wounds with measurements and locations. The session ended with summarizing the bullet paths and adjournment to Monday at 9 30 AM.
The list introduces jurors numbered one through twelve with names and occupations. Notable residents include G W Wright a farmer in Southwest Township, J D Howls a painter near Sugar Grove, L E Russell a clerk from Russell, Jensen Smith a farmer in Freehold, and others from Warren Sheffield Pleasant Pine Grove and Youngsville areas. Ages range from 28 to about 58.
George J. Wilbert testified he saw Amann drive with Andrews to the reservoir where Amann’s body was found the next morning. The defense questioned him about wife location and boarding-house details as the trial moved slowly amid tense exchanges. Mrs Emile Amann testified in mourning as the Commonwealth began its case.
