L G Dennis known as the Little Giant of Alachua died in Gainesville after a wager to drink two quarts of whisky. A former war captain and skilled politician, he shaped Florida politics during Reconstruction, led Archer frauds, and influenced Republican strength in Alachua County before his death at about 45.
