A Sharpsville Advertiser report discussed by a Erie Gazette reader notes the sale of the Mount Hickory Iron Company Limited mill and Erie furnaces. W L Scott bought Erie mill for about 49500 and P L Kimberly laid off the Sharpsville furnaces for about 29850, totaling 77350. The furnaces were built in 1868 by Gen James Pierce and Scott. During a Sunday storm lightning hit the cupola of the Harrison Allen house in Glade. A W Wood, woken by the shock, found plaster dust in a room mistaken for smoke.
