Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, back from the European front, declares Germany will fail and urges full support for the war. He urges Liberty Bonds and morale support, promises closer U S coordination with forces abroad, and praises American soldiers and Allied cooperation as decisive for victory.
New York April 7 with 60 percent of enrolled voters in thirty nine cities counted the wet and dry forces pressed to maximize turnout as polls close at 8 PM. The unusually large vote, double previous elections, promised a final tally soon.
Greek forces breach the Bul gar front near the Struma River north of Tahinos Lake in Mace donia. A number of villages have fallen to the Greek Army as it engages Bulgarian and German units.

Paris April 17 Bolo Pasha sentenced to death for treason on February 14 has been executed at Vincennes. He reportedly confessed to involving others including Senator Humbert and former Premier Caillaux. Caillaux allegedly confronted in his cell during dramatic moments. The same court also sentenced death to Bolo’s Italian associates. Philadelphia April 17 Voters who failed to register last fall may do so now amid a wet and dry election issue and large enrollment.
New York April 17 United States claims a new invention against German U boats has been tested successfully. Charles E Mitchell president of National City company spoke at a Rainbow division Liberty loan electrical committee meeting saying the device captured more than a dozen submarines in two days. He refused to provide further details.
Washington reports showers this afternoon or tonight with cooler air in the north. Thursday will be partly cloudy with showers near Lake Erie and cooler conditions overall.
