Beginning this morning German forces renewed frontal attacks on the Wytschaete section of Messines Ridge. Allied observers report heavy fighting in the zone with no decisive outcome yet as troops retire toward the Wulverghem district.
Heavy artillery and infantry actions marked the Flanders front as German forces renewed drives in the Baillieul Neuve Eglise and Wytschaete sectors near Armentieres. British defenses held key positions around Messines Ridge while Paris said local French gains occurred south of Montdidier and near Noyon opposite Amiens.
The new draft bill advances to the final stages with a likely path to the president by week’s end. A proclamation fixing the registration date for young men under the new law will follow shortly.
