Train Service Debate Among Wallace Burke Mullan People

The board of trade will discuss train service between Wallace Burke and Mullan at next Wednesday's meeting. Citizens from Wallace Burke and Mullan are urged to attend and voice opinions as a special committee seeks a plan. The meeting will also address Northern Pacific plans to discontinue local service and the need for public backing to support or oppose changes.

Light on the Mountains pageant to be presented by university students

The university plans a production of Light on the Mountains in Moscow on Saturday evening June 9. A reduced round trip rail fare applies to Northern Idaho, eastern Washington, and parts of eastern Oregon. Return limit June 12. Dates of sale June 7 8 9. Commencement week includes recital June 7 and exercises June 11 12 with Alumni Day June 9 preceding the pageant. Joint request secured the railroad discounts with Moscow chamber of commerce backing the event.

Mine Inspector Here Also Salt Lake Visitor

Stewart Campbell, state mine inspector, returned to Wallace at the start of the week to complete his annual check in the Coeur d'Alenes, interrupted by a call to Idaho county's Elk City district. He is accompanied by F. W. Bodfish of Salt Lake City, a mining engineer and vice president of the Minerals Exploration company, noted for operations near Ketchum and ties to the Federal Mining & Smelting property. Bodfish, famed for Cripple Creek ventures with the Moffatt interests, has long experience in gold mining and will tour local mines, mills, and the Bunker Hill smelter during this trip.

Paragon Secretary Visits Mine In Wallace District

F O Hammer of St Paul, secretary of Paragon Consolidated Mining, arrived in Wallace Monday and went to the mine four miles above Murray. Under C J Grimamoe the Paragon has developed a large ore tonnage and now runs one shift with plans for full operation. The company owns the Black Horse group, a 100 ton daily mill recently overhauled, plus a water right and electric power for year round operation.

Funds for County Roads Boosted by Forest Revenues

The county plans a $300,000 bond issue to pave and standardize the main highway, funded by half of annual road revenue. Timber sales from national forests will also swell road funds, with Forest Service estimates showing growing receipts and a large share flowing to Shoshone County for roads and schools. a recent timber sale illustrates the mechanism and potential totals.

Fred Herrick Hosts Sixth Annual Big Game Dinner

Fred Herrick welcomed 150 guests at the Grotto last Tuesday for his sixth annual big game dinner in St. Maries and nearby towns. The event, previously men only, included ladies this year and featured bear hunting imagery, cougar meat specialties, and Alaska ice cream. Music by Nicholson’s Orchestra complemented toasts by H C McAlister and others.

Silver Range gains backing from visiting stockholder

A. Lobe of Kellingham Washington, a Silver Range Mining stockholder and Perfecto Gear president, toured the Silver Range property in the city this week. He praised the property joining the Galena on the east and crossing Placer creek, noting a vein aligned with Galena and a crosscut to reach it in about 80 feet. Burt, the Silver Range manager, has traced the vein via surface openings and expects ore as development continues.

J. F. Callbreath of Washington D C secretary of the American Mining Congress registered at the Samuels hotel last Saturday and spent several days in the district in conference with operators. He left for the coast Tuesday morning.

Students Visit Mines Mills and the Smelter

A group of Idaho School of Mines seniors, led by instructor C B Marshall, toured the Coeur d Alenes visiting Armstead mine, Idaho Gold and Ruby operations at Leonia, and the Hunker Hill smelter. Dr F B Laney accompanied the party, which included Bernice Day the only woman in the program.

Dr Francis A Thomson dean of the Idaho school of mines will conduct the competitive Day scholarship exam in Wallace Wallace high school building at 9 o clock Tuesday morning June 6 The Jerome J Day scholarship awards 250 a year for four years to graduates of the Irish schools of Shoshone county Open to county mining trad pupils and expected to attract competitors from all district schools within the county
