Supreme Court OKs 2 Million Road Bond Plan in Idaho
The Idaho Supreme Court ruled four to one that the 1921 legislature could authorize a fiscal agent for the sale of 2 million highway bonds and that the 1919 act submitting the bond issue to a voter referendum is constitutional. The decision upholds use of federal aid for road construction and clarifies debt authority and treasurer discretion in bond sales.

Miners' Consumption Studied by Government Report
Investigation of Butte Montana mines over four years examined more than 1000 miners. About 42 percent showed definite dust injuries to the lungs. The one year tuberculosis death rate in Butte was nearly 18 times Michigan's. Miners' consumption is not contagious and develops slowly from silica dust exposure and work conditions.

JOPLIN ZINCMENT: Joplin-Miami District Zinc Mines Face Reopen Debate
Deplorable conditions in the Joplin-Miami zinc district stir talk of reopening mines due to slightly higher prices. An apparent 60,000 ton stockpile exists, and many operators oppose expanding production now. Past winter saw miners leaving for other work, night shifts kept some richer mines running, potentially worsening output per worker. Vinecar Will Barr, Muncie, and a few others have restarted, but most idle properties remain shut until zinc ore is paid for. About 28 properties operate steadily, with 3-4 only a few days weekly, versus 122 active a year ago. Current production runs about 6,500 tons weekly, down from roughly 12,000 tons yearly prior.
