Idaho Mines Senior Class Visits Coeur d'Alene District

The Idaho School of Mines senior class, led by Dean Thomson and Dr Taney, toured Coeur d'Alene district mines and mills, inspecting Bunker Hill Sullivan, Hecla, Yukon Gold dredge, and other operations before returning to Moscow. The group, including six seniors from Gooding Wallace Seattle Caldwell St Louis and Boulder, met mine managers who praised the reception and facilities provided. Dean Thomson highlighted a brighter university outlook under Dr Upham and growing Idaho interest in Moscow campus programs.

Powder price cuts cut to $1.75 per hundred pounds

The Wallace Powder Company cuts mining explosives by 1M cents per pound, equivalent to $1.75 per 100 pounds, effective June 1. Prices for Dupont and Giant gelatin drop to $23.40 per 100 pounds for ton lots and to $23.40 for smaller lots, with related reductions for 49 percent gelatin. Stamping powder stays unchanged.

Fine Opportunity for Youth to Obtain Military Training

Major F J Quigley announced U S Army plans for Citizens Military Training Camps in Idaho units at Camp Lewis and The Presidio San Francisco. Training runs one month starting July 6 with three one month courses over three years, no service obligation, ages 16 to 36, physical and moral requirements. Government covers transportation and expenses plus athletics emphasis.

Black Bear Easement Secured For Senator Mines Project

After long talks in Portland and this city, Senator Mining Company wins an easement allowing use of Black Bear Mines main tunnel for Senator ground development and mine operations. Payment totals $50,000, Black Bear takes 20,000 Senator shares valued at $22,500, with $27,500 due in three installments including a $5,000 first payment.

University grads of Idaho school of mines meet district seniors

Idaho university graduates connected with the Coeur d Alene mining district joined the senior class of the school of mines for a dinner hosted by Dean Francis A. Thomson at the Banquet restaurant last Monday. The event highlighted how the university supplies technical men for mining. Attendees included Dr. F. B. Laney and several graduates residing in the district.

West Hunter Mining progresses on American Commander vein

F J Davey, president of West Hunter Mining, returned to Seattle after inspecting the company’s property near Mullan. A contract to drift 200 feet east from the No 3 tunnel on the American Commander vein was let. A fresh shaft shows a strong vein, with surveys suggesting a 1000 foot depth. West Hunter plans to gain power from American Commander once its compressor is installed, likely soon, while contractors continue by hand in the interim.

Angus Sutherland May Become U. S. Marshal in Idaho

Idaho Republicans anticipate Evan Evans of Orangeville as collector of internal revenue and Angus Sutherland of Idaho Falls as United States marshal for the district of Idaho under a senatorial agreement between Senator Rabin and Senator Gooding. Sutherland is seen as a strong personal choice of Senator Gooding and is regarded as highly deserving for the office.

Snow removal on Snoqualmie Pass inspires local study

The county commissioners and Shoshone County Good Roads association consider methods used elsewhere to clear snow from highways after a tough season on the Idaho Montana divide. A Washington report details Snoqualmie Pass clearing by steam shovel on a caterpillar tractor, eight miles at depths of five feet, with costs and days reported.

Anaconda Men Registered at Samuels in Great Falls

Mr and Mrs James Elton Mr and Mrs A F Wiggin and R B Caples all of Great Falls Mont registered at the Samuels last Thursday evening. Mr Elton is well known in this city having been engaged in mining here for several years and in 1912 was superintendent of the Success mine. He is now assistant general superintendent of reduction plants of the Anaconda Copper Mining company at Great Falls. Mr Caples is assistant superintendent of the Anaconda electrolytic zinc plant at Great Falls.

Lookout Pass Road to Open to Bids for Five Mile Route

County officials ready to award contract for about five miles from National mill to Lookout summit. State and county coordinate bid process, with plans to widen and upgrade road to state standards as funds allow. Contractors from Spokane and local firms expected to submit proposals. project aims to ease travel and extend season by two months.

Sidney Piling Up High Grade for Shipment to Smelter

Fred W. Calloway toured the Sidney on Pine Creek and lauded the ore display. The drift exposed about 20 feet with two feet of shipping grade lead-silver ore. An ore dump will be moved to the Bonker Hill smelter. Manager Papesh estimates shipping ore at 50 percent lead and 60 ounces silver, with drift to advance to about 300 feet depth.

Gallagher Arrives to Inspect Columbus Mining Property

Gallagher of Philadelphia and president of Columbus Mining Co arrived Tuesday afternoon and left yesterday morning for Eagle Creek property. He plans to stay two or three days to review development plans and further work.
