The Bunker Hill company along with Coeur d Alene Hardware and Foundry details a new 6500 ft ⅝ inch wire rope hoist. It features 48 inch drums 60 inch center distance forged steel pinion cast steel ringbone gear ball bearings and dual brakes with air assisted release for precise control and efficiency.
A White raise hoist features electric dynamic braking via a motor generator set and a direct current master switch. Interlocked master switches allow either AC or DC braking, enabling lowering from full speed to about one quarter speed. Enhanced clutches modeled on automobile multiple disc designs, enlarged to handle greater torque, with 24 inch discs and asbestos facing, ensure reliable operation. Safety provided by Welch controllers prevents over speed or over travel, with a man speed option capping rope velocity. The hoist will be displayed at Wallace in June for mining men to inspect, with a new station and rope way under construction ready ahead of use.
A procedure is described to replace ropes from an old air hoist with ropes from a new hoist. When the change is made, only a short time is needed to remove lines from the old hoist and thread the new ropes over the sheaves to the skips. Minor extra time would be required to swap the head sheaves if desired.
