Reported bills in Congress seek to exempt annual assessment work on public lands for the year 1920. House committee favors the measure, aiming to relieve claim owners from costly labor and supplies amid high wages and scarce workers in western mining districts.
Cedar Creek Mining & Development company resumes work under John Weyer. A large lead ore body was exposed in the main drift during suspension caused by war and power shortages. The drift near the fire and a visible offshore vein indicate the drift may turn along an ore sheet, with exploration planned once the drift is cleared.
Copper King Mining manager Harry Ingells reports a raise from the lower tunnel of the Copper King mine at Mullan is following the foot wall in good ore with an ore body width of about 30 feet. Preparations proceed to resume Silver Cable mining though shipments may be delayed by supply delivery problems. zinc market conditions will influence movement.
A federal court session in Coeur d'Alene on May 31 will hear Federal Mining & Smelting's renewal of its request for an order to raise ore from underground to surface. Judge Detrich previously denied relief, with the record noting conditions for possible future relief if all parties consent.
The Board of Trade will host a banquet next Monday at 6 30 pm in the Banquet Restaurant honoring the directors of the Callahan Zinc Lead Company. Twelve directors, mostly from Duluth Minneapolis and Wallace, are invited with many executives of mining and railroad firms expected to attend. The event aims to strengthen ties between mining interests and the business community and is touted as the district’s most notable gathering.
Argument submitted in district court last Monday on Gertie Mining's bid to force Hecla Mining to permit Palatife to inspect survey and sample east of the shaft. Therrett Towles secretary and James Dunne of Burke conferred in Yakima with directors and stockholders on resuming operations near Burke two miles north. A meeting will be held to levy an assessment for prospect work in the lower tunnel where the vein showed promise before stoppage. Plans include building a trail from the wagon road above the Paul tunnel to Humbold creek and the new tunnel, with a cabin to be built. Next year they expect to extend the tunnel to enhance the entire Majestic venture.
Samples of ore from the Chicago Boston mine attract attention in Cedar Street office windows. Julius Goodrich visited the property and described ore from the 00 level with a drift partly cleared. A weighed sample yielded 31 ounces of silver and 48.8 percent lead, supporting belief another promising mine is developing nearby.
Captain G Rossi, father of Herman and Adolph Rossi, returns from California for a visit with old friends. The genial pioneer captain, famed for leading the city’s pioneer rifle club, appears hale and hearty, showing the same zest and sociable spirit noted a quarter century ago.
W. C. Stratton, accountant in the Gyde Taylor building, is preparing a full inventory of National Copper Mining Company assets. The effort lists buildings, machinery, materials, equipment and stores with original costs and present market values. Rumors of a stockholders meeting circulate, but no meeting is planned at this time.
Wasley Everett of Aamon-Dixie Mining reports April drift work extended the min tunnel into Leslie ground by 2 feet with 49 feet added. No ore at face yet but near-term ore indications exist for several redundant feet. A new change and dry room 12x feet will be completed at depth around 1000 feet below the lower Les-Ne tunnel as exploration continues.
The Caledonia Mining Company will pay quarterly dividends after June 6 and July at 1 cent per share, totaling $26,050. President Stanly A Bristow cites rising costs, depleted ore bodies, and federal taxes as reasons for revising the dividend rate. The quarter ended March 31 shows a surplus of $569,383 with cash and investments totaling $570,445. Production for the quarter included 28 dry tons of lead ore and 45,078 ounces of silver, valued at over $136,000, with ore prices around $9.04 per 100 pounds and $1.23 per ounce. In Wallace, a 20-member committee reports a labor shortage and a need to attract married workers to the Coeur d Alene mining district. The study urges a broad advertising campaign, highlighting family-friendly conditions, education, churches, social life, and stable employment.
Sam Linn led development on the Hypotheek to drive a crosscut toward expected veins. The crosscut has reached 170 feet and is projected to reach the first vein in about 140 feet at a depth near 500 feet.
Patrick Brady of Brady Development states the Headtight workings advance about nine feet daily toward the Tone while aiming to cut the Rose vein in roughly five months. Twelve men work under Brady and his son.
