Western Union Starts North Crosscut to Find Main Vein

Ben Collins of Spokane oversees a crosscut contract by Western Union Mining to extend the northward vein search. The project adds four workers to a 20 man crew as it aims to prove the main vein’s richer potential beyond the current ore from a northern offshoot.

Eye specialist to visit Kellogg and Wallace

Through the Shoshone chapter of the American Red Cross Dr. L Anthony an eye specialist from Spokane will visit Kellogg tomorrow afternoon and Wallace in the evening. He will lecture on The Care of the Eye at 8 o'clock in the buch school auditoriums. Admission is 90 cents. a Friday session starts at 9 am in the parade school nurse's room for Red Cross eye cases and other patients.

Ajax mining shows potential ore shoot in east drift

In conversation with Ajax Mining manager A C Hixby, the east drift at Ajax shows promise as ore widening near a faulted vein. A 900 foot drift depth with a 15 foot vein and six inches of galena-bearing quart along the footwall, plus a 150 foot commercial ore shoot exposed near winter, suggests another favorable shoot may develop as work progresses eastward.

Independence Lead Mines outlines tunneling and ore progress

The Independence Lead Mines announces retimbering of the lower tunnel now in good condition and plans exploratory work in upper tunnels where crosscuts reveal low grade lead silver ore. Last shipments exceed 33000 dollars with a 25 percent royalty to Western Union. Leasers on No 3 level report 50 tons of ore and are to extend the tunnel 100 feet toward No 4 level to connect with stopes for ventilation and exit.

Veteran Coeur d Alene district pioneer Volney D Williamson, a founder of the Pacific claim and early Trout Creek routes, returns to Spokane after years of activity across Canada, Australia, and Mexico. He now leads the Williamson Off reclamation company which buys aging wells, cleans them, and extends life for profits. A new Maho Group Mine company forms in Kellogg with plans to develop the Idaho group on Vine Creek, using the Nabob tunnel for ore shipment and possible Nabob mill access.

Remarkable Plattnerite Specimen Found by Davey in District

Frank J. Davey assayer reports a 21.14 pound plattnerite specimen weighing over two pounds. The rare mineral, containing 86.6 percent lead and no silver, is linked to oxidized vein zones and manganese peroxide, with possible quartzite influence. Found first in 1888 at You Like mine, later at Custer Mammoth and Hercules. Known globally only in Leadhills Scotland and Joachimstahl Germany.

American Commander Mining Adds Compressor Plant

HB Kingsbury reports the American Commander Mining and Milling Company has ordered a compressor, machine drill and oil accessories after F Cush ing Moore purchased the gear. The $6000+ installation will use electric power from Washington Water Power Co. Work is advancing in the upper funnel toward intersecting the vein 100 feet below shaft bottom with plans to connect tunnels and valves between shafts No 1 and No 2.

Cut Eagle Vein Shows Strong Promise Near Columbus

Information from Columbus indicates the Eagle vein, intersected at Eagle creek, is strongly mineralized and shows promise of an ore body with further depth. The vein was crossed about 250 feet from its exposure in the creek bottom. little depth gained but drift progress eastward will rapidly add depth. Mining engineer Sliney I. Shonts will survey underground workings next week.

Brady Development to Resume Work on Coeur d Alene Property

Mareick Brady, manager of Brady Development Company, announced renewed work on the Rose xin and Olympia group in the Coeur d Alene district after a recent confinement. The vein at Rose appears about 30 feet wide with oxidized iron and lead carbonate ore. Intersections planned at 1200 feet depth near the west end of the Rose claim. Sullivan owns the Rowe claim. A G Kerns owns the Olympia group. The project is financed by Pennsylvania capitalists led by J C Parsons of Pittsburgh, who is in town with his daughter Miss Helen Parsons.

Sunset mine shows strong lead-silver ore at 1000-foot level

Siderfin reports the Sunset drift on the 1000-foot level exposes about three inches to a foot of nearly clean lead-silver ore widening to three feet at times. The ore shoot may run hundreds of feet, with best showing on the West Sunset ground. Senator W A Clark oversees the inquiry and may resume operations as conditions improve.

Stewart Campbell elected state mine inspector last fall will visit the Coeur d'Alene district soon after April first. This will be his first trip to the area and he is expected to spend considerable time inspecting the local mines.
