Union Pacific plans major 1923 improvements and new double track
Union Pacific president C B Gray announced plans to invest about 43 million dollars this year in upgrades to speed up service and handle peak demand. The biggest item, 11.5 million for 78 freight locomotives and about 13,000 freight cars, includes Pacific Fruit Express cars. Double tracking will extend nearly the full Omaha to Ogden and Chicago to Salt Lake routes, creating a continuous two track line for 1515 miles. Utah construction opens iron, agriculture and scenic regions with Delta to Fillmore and Land to Cedar City lines. An alternate Boise main line and Idaho Park district branch are also planned. A traveling court in Missouri has established a mobile, on-site sentencing precedent for bootleggers.
