The zinc market in 1920 fell abroad and in the United States with a price rebound in summer. Major producers cut output, including Anaconda cutting from 10 million to 6 million pounds monthly, Inter State Callahan shutting down, and Butte & Superior suspending operations. European demand collapsed as exports dwindled, with most UK smelters idle and Belgian stocks rising. Germany benefits from cheaper production costs while India and Australia face limited prospects amid labor and coal shortages. Belgium remains pivotal, while global supply tightens as nations reassess postwar trade and industrial recovery.
