Robert N. Bell lauds Idaho's new Bureau of Mines and Geology for aiding mineral development through independent bulletins and surveys. He highlights joint federal state work with USGS and US Bureau of Mines, maps aiding fire control, and plans for regional topographic and economic surveys extending into Oregon and Washington.
Narhox mine widens east drift by about 190 feet on the 00 level. Ore shows well along the drift with plans to extend 200 more feet east of the creek. Engineers favor the east oxide for ore. crosscut to the big south vein planned once extension complete. Seven men employed. Directors levy assessment of five mills.
Leasers led by Peter Shoup A A Blank and Elmer Smith report a bonanza lease at Black Bear in the Frisco group. Ore shows about 60 percent lead and 25 ounces of silver per ton, with a 60 ton capacity mill to be ready near tunnel No 3. A gravity tramway and loading win will convey concentrates to the railroad, with spring plans for the tram.
Thomas Teens, long resident in this city, visits with his wife before returning to McGill Nevada where he works at Nevada Consolidated Copper Mining Company. The porphyry copper complex runs its 15,000 ton daily mill about a third capacity due to weak copper markets and surplus stock, employing nearly 4,000 under normal conditions. The firm owns the town, rents houses at low rates, and runs a large commissary for workers. Mr Reese plans to return to McGill in about 20 days. Ex-Emperor Wilhelm buys German-made goods when possible.
A Boise campaign plans to raise 1500 for Hoover's fund to feed 9.5 million undernourished Europeans. Kellogg joins Idaho effort with a state organization led by Stanly Easton and Chas Yates. A telegram from Herbert Hoover urged immediate action as Wallace officials consider forming a local committee to collect subscriptions and transmit funds.
With one exception all county offices are now held by Republicans. Mary J. Barnes the county school superintendent was reelected Democrat and unsworn. The roster lists commissioners, clerk district court, auditor recorder, sheriff, probate judge, assessor, treasurer, prosecuting attorney, superintendent of schools, and surveyor. Old and new clerical staff retained with changes. Dr J R Bean reappointed county health officer.
Wallace Mining directors gathered last Sunday with stockholders from Kellogg and Wallace. Don Rae reported Alaska operations progress toward production by next spring, likely by June, with mill machinery and ore blocked out. Rae described Willow Creek climate as mild for Alaska, suitable for year round milling with Gibson mill improving recovery, and noted a $2000 bond for three Sylvanite claims joined to the company ground.
Wesley Everett resumes duties as manager of the Amazon-Dixie Mining company at Sildix after an appendicitis operation. The main tunnel extends toward a potential ore shoot with lead and zinc exposure from a crosscut to the Lestie. Stockholders meet January 27 to approve consolidation and capital increase from 1.5 million to 2.5 million shares, exchanging 2 million Lestie shares.

J A Mormonten and associates have purchased the Savage and Gordon leases of the Bunker Hill and Sullivan workings. The deal includes a custom mill now being overhauled with flotation added under Henry M Throadson. Kellogg United Mining also holds the Corrigan lease from Government Gulch to Pine Creek, a 50 ton mill nearing operation amid zinc market weakness. The Corrigan, developed by the Federal, exposes lead and zinc ore, waiting for favorable markets to profitably separate metals.
Idaho metal mining, led by Coeur d Alene district, recovered in 1920. Output rose with head silver zinc copper and gold gains, total gross value reaching 32.85 million dollars, up from 1919. Deep development continued at major mines such as Bunker Hill Sullivan Hecla Morning Tamarack Custer Hercules and Callahan Zinc Lead. Settlement of apex suits might unlock 1000 tons daily ore, while other districts like Boundary Lemhi Blaine and Custer reported expanding resources and a new 100 ton mill at Rams horn Beardsley.
Hon. Donald A. Callahan of Shoshone County returned home Wednesday with his brother James F Callahan after being summoned from the legislature by his brother a bond forgery victim. He plans to return to Boise on Sunday.
