The Future of Copper and the World's Supply
J Park Channing speaks at Columbia University on December 13 arguing copper profits did not harm the country during WWI. He traces price shifts, wartime production methods, and rising costs, predicts 1922 may see copper around 16 cents per pound, and warns global supplies are limited with looming shortages in fifteen years unless new deposits are found. He notes strong demand from hydroelectric projects and increased US and world consumption, plus Germany’s industrial role. He details early US mining shifts from Lake Superior to porphyry deposits in Nevada, Utah, and Chile, and highlights scarce, high-demand ore bodies as key to future supply.

Gold Bonus Bill Believed Doomed by House Panel
The McFadden gold bonus bill is dead, per the Ways and Means Committee and many supporters, as current economic trends favor gold producers and Treasury's strong adverse report seems insurmountable. Despite Senator Oddie and 21 western allies pressing for aid to gold mining, observers see little chance for passage. Still, agitation surrounding the bill may have helped retroactive tax exemptions for 1917 gold profits become law.
