The Galena mine reports the crosscut to the footwall at 19 feet with ore widening from 3% to 15 feet in the shoot. No 6 drift has reached 260 feet on milling ore with silver rising to about 10 ounces per ton and lead at 1 percent, aiming to prove continuity between levels and place the mine on a productive basis.
F A Dinsmore, longtime resident, guides Culross Island Mining and Milling Co as vice president and manager. Development reveals a six to six and a half foot ledge with a pay shoot averaging 30.80 dollars in gold plus copper and lead. A 700 foot main tunnel raises, a 50 ton mill is planned. A 60 ton boat with drill and compressor is en route from Seattle. Water power provides a 300 foot fall. a 900 foot pipeline will link reservoirs to the mine. Concentrates will go to a Tacoma smelter where water rates are low.
Ehrenberg and M. W. Neary traveled from Spokane at the start of the week with Mrs. Ehrenberg, Mrs. Neary, and Miss Ruth Neary. They showed strong interest in the Senator, a development under bond by the Coeur d'Alene Syndicate. They motored from Spokane and returned yesterday afternoon.
Philip Wiseman of Los Angeles, mining engineer with connections to major enterprises abroad, arrived to inspect the Coeur d'Alene Syndicate. He praised operations under Rush J. White and expressed confidence in the project spanning the Flynn group and the Senator amid the syndicate’s strong financial and professional standing. The group includes Wiseman, Seeley W. Mudd, Horace V. Winchell, Carl O. Lindberg, and D. C. Jackling.
Wesley Everett, manager of Amazon-Dixie Mining, visits Wallace to report crosscut progress toward the vein on the 800 level. The vein is expected to be reached within about 500 feet as formation changes reduce moisture and water risks. A large pump move and motor repairs delay breakthrough, with stockholders slated to visit later in August to review ore showings and Revett formation prospects.
Bennett L. Williams chief clerk in the secretary of state office announces his bid for the same office. He is a north Idaho man from Latah County, suggesting regional backing may play a role in the campaign.
Rex Consolidated Mining officials report progress at the Rex mine including an encouraging intermediate level shoot between tunnels No 1 and 2 with about eight inches of ore and expanding vein mineralization. Paul Meacham to extend a drift, a crosscut to the Okanogan vein nears completion, and plans for the Red Monarch crosscut under the Rex shaft are outlined. Tarbox Mining stockholders elected a new board of directors led by Dr H C Mowery to pursue electric power, improved ventilation, and cost reductions, with treasury funds and a rapid inspection underway.
A. G. Bachman of Butte, holder of the Sunset mine upper workings lease, is ready to start shipping once the road allows delivery of a compressor, rails and gear. Machinery was moved when Senator Clark halted work, and Bachman notes about 200 tons are ready with about 1000 tons more accessible above the drift. The ore is lead-silver with little zinc and high silver value. county repairs are expected on the road above the Rex reach.
Everett H. Pattison mining engineer, long-time Pattison resident, is in the city with Mrs. Pattison to attend stockholders meetings of West Bell, Headlight and related firms where he serves as secretary. He now lives in Long Beach, California, representing Markwell Interests and engaging in mining engineering in southern California and Arizona. He also has oil interests near Long Beach.
Negotiations in recent weeks between Independent Copper Mining & Milling and National Copper Mining yield an agreement allowing Independent to use the National tunnel to reach a vein about 700 feet away. The three patented Independent claims lie between National and Missoula Copper, with a shaft sunk 200 feet and a drift extending east where lead silver ore shows strong promise. National tunnel offers ideal conditions for deep development.
Sidney Norman editor of Mining Truth toured the Coeur d'Alene district for firsthand mining information. He visited Success Hecla Coeur d'Alene Syndicate Ajax Independence and other properties before returning to Spokane with a brief Galena stop last afternoon.
Senator Watson of Indiana estimates that in the first year the metal schedule of the new tariff bill will yield the government 18 016 578 dollars in revenue. The state of Washington has 125 hydro electric horsepower for every square mile of its territory.
Ore body at the Success mine now proven over 100 feet long with ore on both walls and a 27 foot width at the original cross cut. East drift ore is lighter near crescent cut. West drift shows even better ore quality, promising a full face of clean shipping ore. The mill runs on one shift, consolidating concentrates. over a carload of crude ore awaits shipment. A contract was signed with A. S. & BR. for lead byproduct. Two shifts underground extend drifts. current ore supply limited to development.
Samples from No 2 crosscut of the Independence Lead show ore possibly better than a fair average. Assays reached 5 ounces silver and 13.7 percent lead, with a full-face estimate around 4 ounces silver and 9-10 percent lead. Development continues on Nos 2 and 2 levels as crews push forward amid ground disturbances.
Metals Mining company has leased the National mill to work Hunter tailings and is close to completing repairs. Under J S Parker of Bunker Hill & Sullivan and C I Hewitt, a tailings lease was secured and the company formed. Estimated tailings total 40,000 to 70,000 tons with silver as the main value. A motor truck delivery contract covers about half a mile. Flotation recovery, an area of Parker’s expertise, will be used.
The Days ended their smelting venture after failed mining and marketing efforts. They sold Northport and Carnegie refineries, then signed a long contract with American Smelting & Refining to process Hercules and Tamarack ore. Northport will be dismantled as A S R takes over.
James F. McCarthy president and manager of Hecla Mining will travel to Milwaukee for a directors meeting. Anticipation of an extra dividend has boosted Hecla stock in New York, with directors slated to convene on August 19.
