Wakefield approves multiple city construction bids
The Wakefield city commission awarded bids for summer improvements including 18450 square feet of concrete sidewalk and 2870 feet of paving. Hosed’s bid covered sidewalk and crossing costs, Luoma Company won sewer on Olson and Ahola avenues, and other contracts covered culverts grading manholes and uniforms for the Fire Department. State-accrued mine valuation cuts reduced Wakefield figures, with Wakefield mine valuations dropping from 215,270,508 to 778,280 in the latest report.

Well Known Resident Niemi Dies After Sudden Illness
The funeral of Interess Niemi, a longtime resident, will be held Monday in this city. He died Thursday morning while eating at a North Pabst prospect in Tronwood, heart trouble believed the cause. He lived here about twelve years before moving to Lionwood. He was about 53 and survived by his son Theodore, daughter Esther, Mae a teacher in Lionwood schools, and Mrs Fred Mackey of Dassel. The Odd Fellows are expected to handle funeral arrangements.

May Circuit Court Term Opens In Bessemer County
The May term of the circuit court opens Monday at the Bessemer courthouse with over 150 cases on the calendar. Thirty are criminal and many involve facts and chancery issues. Prohibition-related charges comprise most criminal cases, many to be heard without a jury. Damages from sidewalk grade changes near Sunday Lake Street are sought by Geo Shilka and Ayotte for 20 000 and 3 000 dollars respectively.
