Bids submitted for summer improvements in Wakefield include Hosied awarded 18450 square feet of sidewalk and 2870 feet of singing with a total bid of 5260.30. Luoma Company awarded sewer work on Olson and Ahola avenues at 175 and 195 per lineal foot respectively. Manholes priced at 100 each. Concrete culvert on Bedell Avenue bid 20 per cubic yard. Well Known Resident Nels Niemi Dies in City
The funeral for Nels Niemi, a longtime city resident, will be held Monday afternoon. He died suddenly while visiting an insurance prospect at the North Pabst location, Tronwood, of heart trouble at about 53 years old. He lived here twelve years before moving to Tronwood two years ago and is survived by several relatives including Theodore Niemi, Esther, Mae, and Mrs Fred Mackey. His body was taken to his son’s home and will remain there until the Monday service, with the Oddfellows likely to handle arrangements.

May Circuit Court Term Opens in Bessemer on Large Calendar
The May term of the circuit court opens Monday at the courthouse in Bessemer with more than 150 cases on the docket, including 30 criminal matters and numerous equity and chancery issues. Key cases involve Wakefield township versus W J Weston over embezzlement charges, and former county treasurer Clarence W Durkee, held since last October for misappropriating county funds. Most criminal matters concern the prohibition amendment and are expected to be tried without a jury. Damages sought include $20,000 by Mr and Mrs Geo Shilka over sidewalk grade changes near Sunday Lake Street, and $3,000 by Mr and Mrs Ayotte for alleged business injuries.
