John Greene leading Downtown Waco merchants association outlines a long range plan to revitalize the area from 18th Street westward. A campaign office in the 700 block of Austin will launch a membership drive with about 1300 prospects, aiming to enroll 400. A 12 by 16 foot model of a convention hall and hotel will be shown June 15. Local records show 1960 hosted 700 conventions, dropping to 100 in 1961.

LeBlond Reports Cattle in Korea Shows Increase
Jimmie LeBlond urged Bellmead Lions to keep a hopeful view and noted an ongoing effort to aid a Korean orphanage. Twenty cattle were sent to Seoul under his guidance, now expanded to 54 with milk provision for about 640 orphans. The animals remain in LeBlond’s name for technical reasons.

Mrs J G Nan Wherry account clerk in the Tax Department is named the May outstanding City of Waco employee. She has twenty years service and was the first woman honored in the program approved by the City Council. Wherry has completed two in service training courses and received a 1962 safety commendation. Born Argyle Texas she attended Brownwood Temple public schools and is a graduate of Waco High School. She lives at 1915 Gorman and is a member of Austin Avenue Methodist Church.
