Draft extension sparks debate over age limits
Secretary Baker voiced no opposition to extending draft age if needed while Provost Marshal General Crowder warned that about 3,000,000 men would be under arms by next August and class 1 would be exhausted by next year. The plan contemplates arming 4,000,000 by January, calling 1,000,000 more between July and January amid wartime emergency.
