An impressive farewell supper was held for twenty seven Emmet County boys bound for Des Moines. The event at the Elks Hall featured color guards, silk flags, roses, a stirring address by Mr. Kitt Alien, songs by Miss Clara Lesher, mayoral support, and a candy send off as the train departed.

Memorial for J Brawford Lost Aboard Cyclops
Memorial services are set for next Sunday at two in the Methodist church for John Brawford son of Mr and Mrs J S Brawford who enlisted in the Navy in May 1917 and served aboard Cyclops. The vessel is believed lost with all on board, prompting a government pronouncement. Priddy finds buried whiskey jug during Emmetsburg digstone
In Emmetsburg a worker uncovering the old Dimler lot foundation struck a buried whiskey jug while excavating for a new building. The jug shattered, releasing strong liquid. Supervisors reprimanded him but did not dismiss. Pioneer saloon history tied to the site noted. Will quit at ten o'clock Saturday evenings observed by Estherville clerks.
