Estherville reports the Estherville Batherville D Company of the 66th Regiment Iowa National Guards mustered by Major Chautland. Sixty three men enlisted and elected Fred J. White as captain L. Estherville mourns the death of Harry Eglin at his Sixth and Howard street shop after a sudden illness described as brain congestion. Born in Leeds England May 4 1860 he came to Lawler Iowa in 1876 and moved to Estherville in 1888 where he ran a blacksmith and wagon shop and recently planned an automobile repair venture. He leaves four children Rose Sizer widow, and siblings in California. Funeral Sunday at the Presbyterian church with Knights of Pythias and Woodmen of the World in attendance.

Deputy BE. EB. Brees of Waterloo observed seven men in the act of seining at Lost Island Lake. Two escaped, five were brought to Emmettburg and appeared before Mayor Duffy. Four or five pleaded guilty and were fined 87 dollars or 160 days in jail. One man paid his fine. three refused.

Embezzlement Conviction Strikes Express Depot Worker
Albert Flatten, night worker at the M and St D depot, was convicted in Justice Davidson's court of embezzlement from the Adams Express Co. He was sentenced to seven days in jail and a $75 fine, paid by his father. About $200 worth of goods were found in his trunk, including silk and dress goods.

Graettinger Depot Break In Suspects Idle Youth
Graettinger depot was broken into last week while agent Mr Vanney was away fishing. Fifteen dollars disappeared from the cash drawer after a window was pried open. Detectives were sent and a young man about 18, idle and freeloving, is suspected but no arrests are confirmed. The Democrat notes the old saying that idle hands are the devil's workshop.
