Government Bins to Build Corn Reserve in Granary Plan
The government will buy steel bins with a 50 million bushel capacity to store corn as part of the Ever Normal Granary program. Nels G. Christiansen says storage space plus farmer and elevator additions will create an adequate national reserve. Corn under loan in 1933 totaled 271 million bushels, but drought in 1934 showed this was insufficient. Storage carries a 6 cent per bushel allowance to encourage resealing while title remains with farmers or local elevators.
