Dear George, to appreciate the recent kind mention of the approaching 50th wedding anniversary of Mrs. Jenkins and myself, I correct the date. It was Sept. 24, 1880, that Miss Ida May Emersprit of Muscatine County and James E. Jenkins, editor of the Emmet County Republican, were married at the bride's parents’ farm near Conesville. Sixty years pass with world events and community changes, and we cherish two fine sons while mourning one lost to war. A Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Estherville celebrated Emmet county 4-H clubs with leaders and officers from the boys and girls groups as honored guests. Officials from the Emmet county agricultural show board praised the new club buildings and thanked local business people for support while several speakers outlined past and future 4-H activities and a dedication event. Joe Hoye then screened motion pictures of the 1937 and 1938 shows and fishing trips to Canada before news of a vacation by Mr and Mrs Ray Roberts.

Veterans Reunion Draws Local Estherville Corps at Cherokee
Spanish American War veterans from Estherville represented the 62nd regiment at Cherokee for the annual reunion on August 13. Fred Story led the Estherville party with Mrs. Story, Kathryn, and Mrs. John Finch of Spirit Lake. A talk by Senator Guy M. Gillette urged neutrality and preparedness. Major Geo. R. Hicks welcomed the group as Capt. George A. Hills of St. Paul answered. Veterans hailed from Emmetsburg, Sioux City, Boone, Perry, Webster City, Hampton, Algona, Fort Dodge, Cherokee, Haul and Estherville. Hampton was voted the 1940 reunion site.

Mrs Turner Victim in Aurora Auto Crash
Mrs Richard Turner twenty two of Aurora Illinois died in Cedar Rapids hospital after an auto collision Tuesday. Her husband and Mrs Paul Stewart of Maynard sustained minor injuries when their cars collided on the way to Cedar Rapids and the All Iowa Fair. The Turners were en route to Minneapolis for a vacation and had visited relatives in Estherville last fall.

Friends from Wilmont Minnesota joined Mrs Louise Post and Miss Helen Sievers for a one o clock luncheon and five hundred afternoon. The visitors were en route to Arnolds Park where they own a cottage for the week. The group included Mrs Will Sievers Sr and Jr plus two children Geo Sievers Chas Schirlist Mrs Jack Carrie and Mrs Ida Weinger. Mrs Sievers Jr is 88 and still skilled at cards. She stayed at the Post home until today when the pair drove to the Park with her.

Rosemary Haywood, 17, Center township, won grand champion for a 940 pound Hereford entry at the 4 H Achievement Day show near Estherville. Francis Maniece showed a 1070 pound Angus as runner up, with 44 of 160 entries earning blue ribbons. Awards highlighted by Emmet and 12 Mile Lake townships dominate the blue ribbon list, while dairy calf grand champion went to a Jersey from Emmet township.
