Dooly Superior Court Opens With Large Docket

Dooly Superior Court convened with Judge Zera A. Littlejohn presiding. The Grand Jury was charged to pursue many evils and will likely return many true bills. A large Cordele crowd attends, including numerous witnesses. Court will probably last three weeks due to crowded dockets.

Vienna Town Council adopts 4 and 8 mill taxes for 1898

In a regular meeting held in Vienna Georgia on September 127th 1898 Mayor Lashley and Aldermen Hamilton and Lasseter moved that a tax of 4 mills be levied for the town and 8 mills for the school totaling 7 mills. The ad valorem tax books will open September 19 and close October 1 with bills ordered paid to Hutchinson Lumber Standard Oil D B Thompson and J F Waters. Council adjourned.

Miss Edna Brown of Drayton married John B Adkins of near Coney at her parents home. Rev A J Cheeves of the Drayton Baptist church officiated. The ceremony was brief yet impressive and The Progress offers congratulations for a long life of happiness.
