The Washington letter surveys Republican leaders and Roosevelt's growing independence from factions. The Moultrie municipal election favored the dry ticket by a majority of 49. Pledged by officials to issue no new barroom licenses, the plan aims to phase out licenses as current ones expire, driving whisky dens from the town and signaling possible statewide dryness.
Claude Johnson a colored barber was arrested for violating the local option law. He faced a preliminary hearing before Justice Smith and was bound over to county court on $200 bond. Evidence showed he ran a blind tiger in Josh Wiggins barber shop. after a grand jury indictment he resumed whiskey sales.
Louis Roland, a white man from near Seville on the western border of Wilcox County, was tried by a lunacy commission Monday in Ordinary J. M. Warren’s office and adjudged a lunatic. He is confined in the county jail and will be sent to Milledgeville asylum when arrangements are made.
An obituary recalls Bivins Stewart born 1896, who died aged four in 1901, with religious reflections on heaven and family loss. A Cordele News editorial then attacks the Seville charter, claiming insufficient voters, alleging census fraud, whiskey influence, and urging dissolution or charter repeal to curb alcohol sales.
Z W Copeland visited Vienna and urged establishing a city or county court there in Dooly county. He sees no opposition and cites the supreme court decision as making Vienna the advantageous county site, noting the last grand jury urged the court’s establishment.
The State Fair executive board at Savannah selected W. T. Christopher, a veteran newspaper man with extensive state contacts, to travel across the state in coming weeks to advertise and promote the fair. He previously published the Montezuma Record and worked in Cordelo for the Populist party in 1898.
In Vienna Georgia the colored community forms Dooly High School executive committee. T J Hill elected President P H Lewis Secretary T B Lilly Vice President D B Harris Corresponding Secretary. Regular meetings set for the first Saturday each month at 10 am.
