The McCormick Trial Ends in Acquittal for McCormick
In the criminal superior court the state versus Jas C McCormick for killing Levi Bush concluded with a jury verdict of not guilty after two days of testimony. Judges and lawyers from Solicitor Eason Busbee & Cram and Martin Whipple Woodward Pate argued the case amid family presence and strong passions. The jurors, initially split ten to two for acquittal, chose not to convict. The bitter feud between the families preceded the shooting at the forks of the Pinehurst Findlay roads near Bush’s home. McCormick, who married Bush’s sister, was freed and deemed blameless by the twelve jurors.
