Several named residents and neighboring towns appear with social and transportation chatter.
The First National Bank of Cordele, led by J W Bivins and Frank J Bivins, faces allegations of crooked dealings involving asset disposal through employee J S Austin and failure to liquidate debts of the late president Joseph J Bivins. Receivers noted. officers insist the bank remains solvent and intends to pay all debts and deposits in full.
A reader is urged to review all advertisements old and new to spot goods still available. The note promotes Simmons Squaw Wine Tablets aimed at women over 40 for use during menopause.
The Georgia Baptists plan their annual convention in Savannah starting the 31st for about four days. About 350 delegates are expected, representing roughly 180,000 members.
The State vs Ike Jackson charged with burglary was found guilty and recommended to misdemeanor punishment. The State vs Holland Black faced hog stealing and was found not guilty. The State vs Jack Redding for assault with intent to murder was guilty of stabbing with misdemeanor punishment. The State vs Alf Doyle for shooting A B Tippett was guilty with a recommendation to misdemeanor punishment.

Last Friday evening two well dressed men visited Mrs Penny, who is blind, posing as an oculist and offering a miracle cure for five dollars. They gave cheap spectacles and a note “use Salts in warm water,” then fled after taking the money. Mr Penny and friends pursued, demanding a refund from the identified man who complied, the marshal seized their licences, and the pair fled on the midnight train toward the North, vowing not to stay in Vienna. The note ends with an advertisement for wheel repair by Jas Woodward.
A letter from Mrs J Silvers of Coogan Georgia thanks for two large hams and 19 bushels of corn received and recounts medical praise for Rev H C G Hadock who suffered liver distress. She credits Dr M A Simmons Liver Medicine with curing her indigestion and favors it over Black Drauth.
Prof Rowland leads progress at Vienna Public School with strong grips on high and intermediate grades. Miss Martha Bryan oversees the intermediate department and Miss Mary Woodward tutors the primary. Recent events include an American History contest and a question on Virginia versus Plymouth Colony. Expected visit from Dr Whitehead and an April 1 address by State School Commissioner G R Glenn. Grounds to be improved for a more inviting campus, per Lita May McDonalo and Grora Eya Pensy.
The seventy seventh annual convention of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and the fifty sixth annual assembly of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Georgia will be held in Macon Georgia on April 25 26 and 27.
