Decatus Ga August 28 Hiram Sharpe a white man was hanged at noon today for the murder of his wife. The crime occurred on December 6 1899 when alcohol and morphine fueled a shotgun assault as his wife fled to her mother. The old mother pleaded but Sharpe killed the fleeing woman and fled the scene. The sheriff moved the suspect toward Atlanta to avert mob violence as threats of lynching swirled. The case followed a conviction with the supreme court refusing to interfere and no action from the pardon board.
