A mob of armed men demanded the negro detainee at the county jail on Monday night alleging an attempted rape of a white girl in Richwood. Deputy Sheppard defended the jail and the crowd dispersed. The suspect was moved to Macon on Tuesday and awaits trial at the next Superior Court term.
Romantic marriage ends in a runaway after Mr Bascom Swearingen of Veona joins Miss Rosa Barber of Cordele at the Union depot Cordele last Sunday afternoon about three. Parents of the bride objected to the match. The ceremony occurred despite opposition.
Miss Dora Dennard nearly died last Saturday night after mistaking a bottle of medicine for calomel. She took two and a half grains of the deadly drug, but faithful friends kept her alive. The overdose effects faded by Sunday and she is rapidly recovering.
