Shooting at Arabi yields arrest in whiskey incident

At Arabi Georgia on a Friday afternoon B W Jeter, son of J C Jeter, became intoxicated and shot J R Bedgood of Moultrie who had been visiting his parents. Jeter also drew a knife on Mrs W E Bedgood and others. Bedgood was shot in the back but survived. weapon was a 44 caliber Smith & Wesson. Jeter was arrested and jailed in Vienna. The two young men had been good friends with no stated motive.

Dedication at Richwood Baptist Church

Richwood Baptist Church held a dedication service last Sunday with Rev. H. Y. Jameson of the state Baptist Mission Board delivering a notable sermon from Ephesians 5 27. The service featured praise, a dedicatory prayer by Rev. J M Kelley and benediction by Rev. J O Osborne. The church is now debt free and will be painted, with a protracted meeting continuing for several days.

People's Bank of Cordele Declares 12 Percent Dividend

At the annual meeting of the bank's stockholders on Monday the People's Bank of Cordele declared a 12 percent dividend. Four percent was paid in cash and eight percent was added to surplus. All present officers were re elected.

Oliver Rowall Dies After Illness at Vi enna Farm

Oliver Rowall a prominent farmer died at his home above Vienna last Thursday morning from hemorrhagic fever after illness of some duration. He was about forty, leaving a wife and five children. Interment was at Mt Vernon cemetery Friday afternoon with Rev. J. M. Nelson officiating. A widow’s note thanks kind helpers who assisted during illness and death.

County correspondence from Conny Ga Aug 1 1899 notes a week long revival led by Rev Tom West of Albany and Rev Millner near Cordele. Twenty two new members added. Miss Nettie Lewis led a prayer meeting. Miss Eva West organist. Various locals ill or recovering, farm reports, marriage rumors, and community notices.
