Ordinary Hargrove will order an election on the stock law question to be held county wide with voting on Wednesday July 3. Registration books are open and will stay open until ten days before the election. Voters must register and take an oath in the presence of the Tax Collector or clerk. The sixth and seventh districts are expected to be the closest contests.
The Methodist and Baptist Sunday Schools plan a Thursday picnic at Fair Ground Park with a 2 30 program on the grand stand including dashes, races, and a tug of war. A ball game between Montezuma and Vienna is at 4 pm and a small admission is charged.
A marshal sale is announced to occur before the city council chamber door in Vienna Georgia on June 1 1907. The sale will include described property a brindle steer with left horn off right eye out swallow fork and cinder bit in right mouth marked fork in left ear. The notice indicates advertised goods to be sold by marshal.
Rev R A Smith of the sixth district visited The News office and left a year’s subscription. He argued against imposing stock law on districts, saying residents prefer a district election after petition and that nonfarm town voters should not decide district matters. He urged readiness and local petitions before change.
W A Snelling of Pinehurst died Saturday at Mecon hospital after months of ill health. About 50 years old, he led the firm Williams and Snelling and was a devout Methodist. he leaves a wife and six children. Remains brought from Macon and buried Sunday in the city cemetery with Rev J M Austin officiating.
The Vienna Public School ends its commencement week with graduates at the Academy this evening. Friday's music department concert delighted the crowd. Rev. J. As Thomas of Macon delivered a strong Sunday sermon. A medal contest for oratory music and elocution occurred Monday morning, followed by engaging grade exercises. Hon. John T. Boifenflett of Macon gave the commencement address this morning at the Academy. Stores closed as the crowd gathered for the event.
Monday May 27 at 10 a m features a program including Quartet, Galop di Bravura Op 17, Chinese Drill Song, Solo Morning Prayer by Wiegand, piano solos, operetta Messages in Many Voices, Grand Valse Brillante by Jules Schulhoff, performances by Annis Kelly W J Campbell Louise Hargrove Stella Brown, Mamie Trippe Myrtle Smith Irene Bazemore Miss Sallie Mobley Stella Brown Gladys Heard Essa Mae Hamilton and others with two pianos and vocal duets.
The Dooling ball club defeated Vienna by 1 run on five innings to allow Dooling boys to reach Campground for a Sunday School picnic. Vienna players were disappointed and both teams may schedule a full game later to decide the true champions.
J B Hagan a prominent farmer near Barweck in Thomas county was found murdered after being called from his home Friday night. He left with a man carrying a pistol. three hours later his wife and six daughters heard shots. The coroner's jury found no verdict and planned a second meeting as the community remains unsettled.
Eastman Georgia May 25 Jury convicts Mrs Sallie Freeney in the murder of W P Harrell with a mercy recommendation. Counsel moves for a new trial after the overnight deliberation amid defense claim of improper proposal.
