Planting winter wheat urged by Georgia Department
A混 mix of old classified items and a wartime message urges Georgia farmers to plant winter wheat now. The state agriculture commissioner stresses starting early to secure seed and push two acres per farm toward wheat, with a goal of maximizing production, while a patriotic note urges thrift and War Savings Stamps, linking home effort to soldiers overseas.

Sunflower Silage Experiments in Western States
The Bureau of Plant Industry and state experiment stations test sunflowers for silage in cool growing regions. Initiated 1917 at Huntley Montana and Scottsbluff Nebraska, early results show sunflower silage yields 50 to 100 percent higher than corn silage, with irrigation yields over 20 tons per acre. Preliminary feeding tests suggest sunflower silage can substitute for corn silage, but full comparative nutritive values are not yet established.

Farmers urged to hold back part of cotton crop
In Georgia and beyond, the agriculture department outlines a gradual cotton marketing plan. Militia district appointees will secure pledges from cotton producers not to market more than 20 percent of their crop in any month. The move aims to safeguard distressed cotton and align sales with need, while allowing freehold for those who wish to hold. Georgia’s Market Bureau, led by L. B. Jackson, promotes sowing peas for forage to create a ready hay market, promising growth of peavine hay and a market for pry ton.
