Dooly County Farmer Yields 40 Bushels per Acre
A Dooly County farmer, Mr. H. N. Lupo, harvested 40 bushels of wheat from one acre without fertilizer, nearly double his usual yield of about 20 bushels. The crop was carefully harvested and weighed separately, with Lupo offering much of his harvest to the government. War expenses are projected to exceed 1.5 billion dollars for May as treasury estimates rise and expectations of higher costs grow through the next six months.

Storm Strikes Town With Rain Wind And Lightning
A storm Monday night brought heavy rain and lightning with strong winds. Fences were blown down shutters damaged and trees uprooted with telephones lines twisted and poles lifted. One house in the negro district reportedly demolished with minor injuries to a resident. The event cleared the air and benefited vegetation though caused property damage.
