A large group of engineers and other railroad workers occupy the depot area as a strike is declared over hard pay. Negotiations failed to break the deadlock and the men vow not to work until demands are met. Officials anticipate disruptions to regular schedules and possible use of substitutes, with trains running several hours behind time on the lines affected.
The Mayer Watts & Co firm in this city has dissolved. Joseph Burns, long-time manager, becomes sole owner and operator. Retiring partners are Samuel Mayer and W B Watts. The firm built a large trade in seat supply and the News wishes Burns success and growth for the business.

A constable style bulletin reports that Daniel, a resident of Naral Chipley, Ga, shot and killed Burdett Strickland, a Black man, following a dispute over a debt. Strickland fled and is not yet captured after a pursuit by Sheriff W P Bison and W Harris. Daniel, a married man, leaves a family.
Vienna will gain another enterprise though the exact plan and site are not yet secured. May Wypesuere and B E Halford are named as promoters. The venture promises to ease material shortages for building in the city and its surroundings and is welcomed by The News.
The Great Van Amburg Show arrives on special trains with two performances in afternoon and evening. Advertising cars and extensive bill posters promote the event across a forty mile radius. The show promises the town’s largest crowd in years, featuring a grand morning street parade and free exhibitions on the show grounds after the parade.
W E Trippe, who had weighing a bid for tax collector, asks the News to announce his decision not to run. He thanks supporters for their help while the matter was under consideration.
Hartwell Ga December 10 Sheriff Monroe Kidd holds Hart County’s youngest inmate ever, 11 year old Lewis. The boy, son of John B Gaines, is accused of killing his older brother Hoyt Lewis with a shotgun blast the morning after Thanksgiving. Officials say the crime is under review and the boy shows remorse.
Mrs J Martin died after a period of ill health leaving a husband and one child. Interment was held Sunday morning at the family burial ground. Mire J Ly Martin of Byromville was mentioned in the notice. Friday night event appears garbled in the source.
Prof Harry pestis bandmaster of the Georgia Industrial Home youth band fell twelve feet through an open trap door at Polbam Gn during a Southern Georgia tour. He was severely shaken, lost consciousness briefly, then recovered. The band, on its second trip, will return home Saturday with funds from a previous month’s tour reportedly over $1 000.

O Presspich of Hastings Industrial Co Chicago visited Vienna to promote a canning factory costing about 7000 dollars. A stock company would be formed to build it if local finance cooperates, employing about fifty people.
