The Vidalia post office will occupy a new 25 by 75 foot brick building on Meadows street by December including a larger lobby and improved quarters for staff. The site, west of Meadows & Christian Brick agency, is being prepared this week with lumber and brick delivery and completion slated for early December.
The public is invited to a box supper at the Charlotte school building on Friday night November 4th.
There will be no prayer service tonight at the Baptist church because of a revival at the Methodist church. Regular services Sunday morning and Sunday school at the usual hour. All auxiliaries will meet as usual.
The home on Church Street owned by A. P. Darby of Douglas and housing the families of D. H. Lesear and Lester Odom burned Monday after midnight. Authorities suspect faulty wiring started the blaze. occupants escaped as the roof collapsed. Darby carried 2000 in building insurance. The neighboring Ricks building was saved by the fire department but suffered damage.
The first monthly recital of Mrs Giles piano pupils was held at her home Friday evening. Performers included Hubert Darby Mildred Mathews Mabel Stith Maurine Darby Robert Giles and Pearl Knight. Pearl Knight played Album Leaves from Op 199 by Gurlitt with notable insight and clarity.
J F Darby purchased the Vidalia Grocery Co stock and lease at a bankruptcy sale held Tuesday by D C Pattillo. Darby bid 14800 dollars and plans to reorganize the business soon with a strong local bid for territory trade.
Citizens of Vidalia urged a mass meeting at the city hall on Monday night October 31 at 8 o clock to nominate a strong ticket of business men for mayor and council. The aim is to reduce bitterness after the election and unite the town for its progress.
A large turnout from across the county gathered at Johnsons Corner to dedicate a modern brick consolidated school building costing about $15,000. The corner stone was laid by the Masons with remarks from H H Mann, E A Pound, G W Lankford, E J Giles, Youmans, and R S Wilson, followed by a community picnic.

Mt. Vernon Ga Oct 22 crowds estimated 10 12 thousand gathered for the formal opening of the Wheeler Montgomery bridge over the Oconee river linking Mt. Vernon and Glenwood Governor Hardwick spoke praising regional progress and highway cooperation officials from state and local agencies outlined highway plans and maintenance efforts amid a day marked by order and celebration.
The Methodist church in Vidalia hosts ongoing revival meetings led by Rev. W. M. Blitch with Dr. J. P. McFerrin of Waynesboro. Two services daily at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. with a 7:45 p.m. song service, highlighted by praise for Dr. McFerrin as a gifted South Georgia preacher.
Gov Hardwick and party joined a community celebration serving vast barbecue with over a thousand feet of tables. Nineteen beeves and seventy five hogs fed the crowd while Baxley band provided music. The reinforced concrete bridge, 2378 feet long, dominated the scene with design by Garrett Slack and Dawkins Construction Co. and steel by Southern Bridge Co. cost about 225000 funded equally by federal Caccamie and the two counties.

Senator Nelson stated no pending actions threaten the confirmation of George B. McLeod as United States marshal for the Southern District of Georgia. He noted a delay request had been withdrawn after Savannah mayor Stewart dropped objections, making McLeod’s confirmation imminent.
