The Vidalia Kiwanis Club plans to send W. J. DeLoach to Atlanta to meet Seaboard special counsel WL Stanley. The aim is to secure a visit and recommendation to relocate the freight depot, reducing traffic dangers and enabling downtown paving and redevelopment. Rev W R Baggott attends annual conference at Tifton.
Toombs county reports 4898 bales ginned by November 14 with expectations of 200 to 300 more by March 20 final tally. Last year yielded 5800 bales. season saw lighter bales around 470 pounds and lower costs for picking, ginning, bagging, and ties, boosting farmer income.
Notice to the public from Dennis Mosley stating objection to a proposed state highway planned through his property. He notes he has already granted right of way for highways and railways and offers to give land for the road width but no more. He remains firm in his position.
Following a city hall meeting, J. J. Parrish of the Southwest Georgia Melon Growers Association spoke as several local farmers pledged over 108 acres for next year. F. M. Conner of Seaboard Railway organized the session and plans a strong melon acreage along the Seaboard. The association will station a local representative during shipping season to manage loads and markets and boost prices. Training will be provided to signed farmers.
The November term of the Toombs superior court will convene in Lyons next Monday morning with Judge R. N. Hardeman presiding. Officials expect about a four day session handling civil and criminal cases and disposing of several motions that are now pending.
Carl Blanchard aged 23 of Macon a fireman for the M D S Railway died in Macon hospital after being hurled from Fifth street bridge by 6000 volts of electricity. He fell twenty feet striking a water main and fracturing the base of his skull while watching a man called the Human Cork perform a bridge stunt.
Miss Lorene Anderson will marry Atlanta lawyer Thomas Edward Carter at 6 30 p m Thursday at the local Methodist church. The service will feature decor with garden chrysanthemums and a choral processional, with family members and out of town guests attending.
Georgia's hunting season for quail and wild turkey opened Monday as many hunters hit fields and woods. Quail are plentiful and swamps hold numerous wild turkeys, signaling strong early trafficking in game.
The Ladies Missionary Society plans animated ads beginning December 16 featuring familiar characters like Gold Dust Twins and Prince Alert Tots. Proceeds will fund the church building.
Vidalians will observe Thanksgiving Day with local banks post office and many stores closed. Public schools will suspend Wednesday afternoon. Union services at Presbyterian church Thursday at 11. Citizens plan hunts visit Macon Savannah and Montgomery fair at Mt Vernon.
Seventy public school children presented Garden Seed at the city auditorium last Friday night under Miss Geneva Williams and Miss Mary Cantrell. The cast, in flower and vegetable costumes, impressed a large audience with credit and the play received a warm reception.
Following county commissioners instruction, Clerk Ff pare sends summons to citizens who have not paid youth tax or fulfilled road work. Defaulters must appear at the next regular meeting, the second Monday in December, for trial and possible sentencing. Some overdue men have since paid their road tax. Mrs. J. E. Thompson notes a sale of furs and chokers.
In Vilalia the municipal election draws strong female participation with women staffing polls and driving cars to entertain children while mothers vote.
