The Daniels Baptist Association executive committee met in Vidalia to map a two service rally on the first Sunday in April. Drs. Scarboro and Weaver will speak at 4 PM and 7:30 PM as part of the 75 Million Campaign efforts. A further planning meeting with pastors is set for the following Tuesday.
Epworth League plans a program titled Thy Kingdom Come In Our Church. Features include hymns The Lord's Prayer and a reading of Colossians 1 18 24. Addresses by Leader Mr E T Mc Bride and Pastor Rev Blitch. Board and society leaders include L B Godbee Geo S Rountree Mrs Blitch and Barron Godbee.
The Citizens Bank moved from the Bank of Vidalia building where it had been housed temporarily after consolidation to its old street location across from the previous site. The interior was overhauled with a modern arrangement of cages and features, and officials plan exterior improvements soon.
Two Vidalia business firms have begun a spruce up movement hoping for citywide adoption. The New York Cafe recently rebuilt its interior and painted the front. John Patrick and Son on Church Street refreshed their storefront with a new paint job last week.
A well attended rally at the Lyons Methodist church gathered delegates from Vidalia Lyons Center Cobbtown and Altamaha churches. Dr W F Quillian president of Wesleyan College spoke at the morning service and Rev W A Shelton of Emory University spoke at the evening service. A spring rally in Vidalia may follow.
Lee Currie, charged with the June murder of taxi driver Burley Phillips, is on trial again in Toombs Superior Court after a prior murder verdict and hung sentence, with jurors, counsel, and local officials listed and a verdict not expected before Friday. The case centers on Currie’s claim of self defense amid disputed testimony and a physician’s mental-health notes.
Macon Georgia hosts the State Sunday School Convention April 19 20 21 with low rail rates. R D Webb general superintendent of the Georgia Sunday School Association visited Macon to finalize plans. Out of state speakers are expected to join Georgia workers for a strong program.
Several area merchants held sales last week drawing buyers from a wide area. D C Harris ran a Determination Sale with stock cut below market prices while Slotin Hackel plan to vacate soon and offer reductions. Louis Shifrin’s bankrupt stock also discounted. Buyers snapped up seasonable bargains.
Washington reports Champ Clark died at age seventy one in his home city two days after leaving the house of representatives after twenty six years of service. Death followed pleurisy and other age related illnesses as he whispered about the conference report before passing. He planned to retire to Bowling Green Missouri, and had recently campaigned for re election despite health decline.
Vidalia Kiwanis Club is presented its charter at a Thursday banquet in the Colonial Hotel with over a hundred Kiwanians and guests from Atlanta Augusta Dublin Eastman Cordele Macon Hawkinsville Waycross Savannah. Delegates attended from multiple cities, with Eastman sponsoring the new club.
Communion services will be held at the Methodist church next Sunday with preaching at 11 a m and 7 30 p m. The pastor W M Blitch extends a cordial invitation to the public to worship.
