Vidalia plans its first Golden Rule Sale for March 2 with about twenty five firms offering two exceptional bargains for one day. Some items may sell below cost as fifty total bargains aim to benefit Vidalia shoppers and farmers through free auctioneer aid and free ad space for farmer seed and used implements.
Friday night will feature a large Masons gathering with the third degree to be conferred on three candidates. The degree team from Reidsville will lead the last half, with guests from Lyons and nearby lodges expected. Refreshments served. lodge meeting starts promptly at 7.
The Mission Study Class of the W M S met at the Methodist church to discuss The Near East. Mrs Chas D Williams was elected president and will start duties immediately. Mrs J E French thanked retiring president Mrs Blitch and presented her a pin. Meetings will move to Monday at four o'clock.

Judge R N Hardeman opened Lyons superior court with a forceful charge to the grand jury urging diligent duty to curb crime. He described national crime gravity and urged citizens to reflect on forefathers camp meeting faith as a guide. Jury duties include inspecting the jail and courthouse and reporting findings. Grand jurors listed from Bainbridge Reidsville Mt. Vernon Soperton. Williamson case set for today as State seeks murder verdict against Foster Williamson for Otis Holmes.
The Vidalia Kiwanis Club held a lively weekly meeting at the Lipverta Hotel in Lyons attended by business and professional men. Judge titles were humorously adopted by all attendees as fines were doled out for misusing titles, with proceeds for the Lyons Parent-Teacher Association. County Agent Garner spoke on cooperation between towns and a county fair, while plans were discussed to plant trees along the Lyons Vidalia highway as a memorial to World War II soldiers.
The Dempsey Carpentier fight film praised as the greatest of its kind is extended for three more days at the Colonial Theatre Macon. Attendance remains high despite basketball finals in Atlanta with many patrons planning to see the picture later in Vidalia later this month. tickets are limited.
Mrs Margaret H Fordham aged 74 wife of W B Fordham died at home Saturday. Born October 4 1847 in Wilkerson County she leaves five children J D Kirkland Metter I C Fordham Vidalia R G Fordham Jacksonville Fla A M Fordham Wrightsville and John B Fordham Douglas Ariz. Funeral held at Metter Baptist Church with interment at Lake Cemetery. Vidalia attendees listed.
Mrs J E Thompson announces a Friday opening, March 10, showcasing a choice line of millinery and notions. Ladies are invited to inspect the offerings and enjoy the display.
The Woman's Aid Society of Aimwell church will host a pie supper on Friday night March 10 at 7:30. Proceeds will benefit the church. the public is invited to attend.
Georgia Baptists schedule rally meetings from March 4 to March 12 to promote the spring round-up for the five year 73 million campaign. Dr. Arch C Cree announces speakers Dr F S Groner and Dr J E Dillard will tour Georgia with events in Statesboro Dublin Vidalia M c Rae Barnesville and other towns.
