Council Names Tax Assessors and Lowers Rates
At the regular meeting of the city council T G Poe J S Jenkins and L B Godbee were named the tax assessors and will begin sessions soon. The lobby will be lit for post office visitors. Water and light rates were cut effective June 1 with a 10 hour light minimum and 12 cents per kilowatt hour thereafter. Motors pay 10 cents per hour for the first 100 hours, then 9 1/2 cents. water minimum rises from 2000 to 3000 gallons.

City Court Guilty Pleas Heard in Brief Session
City Court conducted a short session Monday with multiple guilty pleas before Judge Corbitt. Defendants included G. W. Overstreet for possessing beer, Lee O Neal for drunk on highway, W D Slocum for possessing beer and a still, Sid Games for possessing a still and beer, and Nowel Dixon for a concealed pistol. penalties ranged from 50 dollars or six months to 150 dollars or six months for each count.

Toombs County Singers Meet at Lyons Sunday
The Toombs County Singing Convention in Lyons Sunday drew a large audience from this and nearby counties. Prof. D. D. Moore presided as quartets performed and Miss Gillis of Soperton sang a solo. In the afternoon session a talk by Mr. C. S. Meadows Sr. preceded tributes to J. M. Tapley.

Family feud turns fatal in road battle near Vidalia
William Galbreath is killed and Cicero Mathews and his son Fred are seriously wounded in a Monday morning clash between the Galbreath and Mathews families along a settlement road near Sharpe Spur and Center church. Tom Tippett and Manny Booth are jailed at Lyons.

Vidalia Flue Factory Opens As Tobacco Season Starts
The Vidalia Flue Factory has opened and begun daily shipments to barns as the tobacco season begins. Growth is slower this year but expectations say Vidalia Tobacco Warehouse will surpass last year. Some growers reduced acreage, while others increased to offset losses. Planters report no major crop issues with favorable weather hoped for ahead. Warren and Pollard, lessees of the Vidalia warehouse, toured the area and plan a delayed opening by one to two weeks due to slow growth.

Wounding of Tom Tippett and Arrests Over Shooting
