The Vidalia Advance lists candidates for its Circulation campaign with free votes held back for later. Prizes include a Chevrolet coach and $2,000 in awards. Many nominees have yet to show active effort, and inactive names may be removed soon. First written reports due Saturday. Public approval praised for fairness and liberal terms.
Vidalia High School teams, both girls and boys, edged Soperton High by one point in a Tuesday doubleheader on the local court. The boys won 11-10 and the girls 9-8, continuing a string of close results between the two schools.
Athens Ga Jan 25 Eugene Talmadge commissioner elect of agriculture told the annual farmers conference at the State College of Agriculture that Georgia must diversify and secure lower freight rates to advance as an agricultural state. He urged action to curb market volatility and criticized current melon freight costs and port rates. He warned overproduction of cotton has harmed the state and urged training specialists for cooperative marketing efforts.
The Twelfth District Mail Carriers Association invites members to gather in Vidalia for the annual meeting on May 31 attracting about fifty to seventy five visitors. Rural and city carriers in the district are eligible for membership and the body has grown in recent years.
The Bethany Home Trustees held their regular annual meeting on Thursday January 13 and ordered construction of an additional building at the home to provide more room. Work has already begun on the new structure.
The Georgia Bankers Association Zone Eleven held its second meeting in Lyons joining Toombs Montgomery Wheeler and Treutlen County banks. Officers named at the January 14 formation included W A Peterson Riley president E J Giles Lyons vice president and George S Rountree Vidalia secretary.
Uvalda Ga January 24 J B Moss single candidate for mayor faces rivals in February 3 election. Aldermen hopefuls include R E Johnson R L O Neal Idus Jones W M Moxley A W Bendamire J B Brown W M Moses and Dewitt Calhoun in a race described as the hottest in the town's history.
A short classified note states buyer D. W. Wilder seeks to purchase corn hay and fodder and asks interested sellers to meet at Vidalia Hardware Co. The item appears in a dated local classifieds column.
P. J. McNatt senior member retires from Mt. Vernon Motor Co. Others B. C. Anderson and E. D. White continue the business. McNatt, a pioneer automobile dealer, notes Florida boom paused and Georgia gains steady progress.
The Vidalia Kiwanis Club gathered at the New Vidalia Hotel for a lively luncheon. Committees reported progress on yearly objectives and road propositions. Members discussed better relations between County and town and heard updates from the Advertise Vidalia committee.
Georgia Division of the United Confederate Veterans urges all camps to send delegates to the Tampa reunion April 5 8 1927. General orders from M G Murchison request dues reports and attendee estimates and urge fast action. Adjutant General Bridges Smith notes a questionnaire and railroad certificate estimates should be returned promptly.
The city announces the Annual Spring Clean Up Brighten Up Proclamation issued by Mayor S P Darby. A central coordinating committee links Kiwanis Woman's Club Bronte Club and other clubs to organize tree planting trash cleanup and cross club communication to keep downtown areas attractive and habit formation for proper trash disposal. The Landscape Committee lists John T Ragan Kiwanis chair and club members Mrs W A Jones and others.
