High School Girls Urged to Enter Meat Story Scholarship Contest
National Live Stock and Meat Board announces a fourth annual national contest offering several university scholarships for home economics students. Contestants write a meat or livestock themed story judged by home economics experts led by Dr. Louise Stanley from the USDA. Last year over 10,000 girls competed. this year’s deadline is March 15.

Vidalia Hospital to Expand with 14 Room Fireproof Unit
Plans call for a new separate unit of fourteen rooms each with a bath, connected to the existing Vidalia Hospital. The addition and the present building will be fireproofed with hollow tile walls and metal shingled exteriors, heated by steam.

Remodeling Of New Bank Building Begins At Once
Jno. T. Ragan and Company has the contract to remodel the three story brick building at Meadows and Church streets. The First National Bank has vacated the structure for immediate work on the first two floors including modern banking furniture and two vaults. The Vidalia Lodge of Masons on the third floor will be excluded from remodeling and used for offices on the second floor.

Boiler explosion kills young man at Soperton mill
In Soperton last Thursday a steam boiler at Murdock Gillis sawmill exploded injuring several and killing J W Gillis a 20 year old son of Mrs Sara Gillis of Vidalia The blast threw boiler fragments over a wide area as fireman and eight workers were hurt or shocked Funeral services were planned for Gillis at the Gillis cemetery.

County institute to start work with six teachers
Dr. T. C. Thompson reports the county institute will begin within a week or ten days. The superintendent notes only six teachers responded to calls for support notices to newspapers, while criticizing the reliance on free publication of notices without compensation.
